The Senators have been arguing about Senator Kelly's Mutant Registration Act for the last week. One Senator knew that there were opponents against the MRA and those for it. He brought in several people against the MRA. There was one who wore a long loose black dress and there was others, one who wore red glasses on his face.
He allowed the first two he called in to speak first but they got the run around with Mr. Kelly. The red glassed man walked past the woman as she stood by the door preventing the audience from attacking or getting too close to the committee.
"Good luck with Kelly." he said with a grim face.
"Scott," spoke the red haired woman, "I hope you do better than we did."
"I think I will." said the young woman.
Senator Kelly never did like this as he wanted his Act to go through now but since one of the other Senators wanted to have a hearing on the subject. He looked at the woman who walked to her seat and looked towards him.
"Morning Senators, I'm Kia Merlin. I'll be quick about this as some may want this to be over today or in a week from now." spoke Kia.
Sen. Kelly asked, "Are you against MRA or for it, Miss Merlin?"
"I am totally against MRA as it is NOT constitutional to be discriminatory or bias against mutants. All mutants are the next step in our evolution as humans. You may state that we need the mutants to be registered so that they are harassed by police for crimes that they didn't commit when in fact a non-mutant committed that crime or get discriminated against at restaurants or their workplaces where they work or go to eat." spoke Kia.
"This Act will not do that." snapped Senator Kelly.
"Oh really, that Act will destroy all freedom for mutants in the United States of America!!! This Act must not go through. You will find that humans and mutants alike will vacate USA for other countries that are friendly towards mutants and you will find that the people of the United States will vote out those Senators who vote for this Act! I for one will vote for the other person if my Senator votes for this Act!" spoke Kia, looking towards the New York Senator.
"Tell me why you are so against this Act, Miss Merlin?" asked Kelly.
"The blood test that you state would reveal if the person is mutant is very much flawed, Senator Kelly."
"What do you mean flawed?"
"Meaning what if your children were tested for the mutant gene and they were tested positive and you were tested to find out that you CARRIED the gene and you passed it down to your children! Would you allow your own children to be registered as mutants and they show NO POWER whatsoever!!!"
Senator Kelly went quiet as he listened to what she said. He spoke, "Thank you for stating that fact. I have tested myself with the blood test and I am not a carrier for the mutant gene."
"What about your wife and your parents' siblings or your brothers and sisters? Did you do them as well?"
"I did and this letter states that they aren't carriers." Kelly said, holding up a slip of paper.
"May I see it, please?" Kia asked, as she held out her hand.
"Of course," Kelly handed it to her.
Kia read the letter and laughed. "Senator Kelly is a carrier for the Mutant gene by the way of his mother. His older sister has the gene too but his brothers don't except for Kelly himself. Your statement about not having the gene is moot. You just didn't read it all, the first part states that the blood test is about and then the second part reveals the truth. Now, that is done. I can explain more about the mutants and why they want to remain anonymous to the Government. Some of us are harmless and some want to be rulers of those who have no mutant powers whatsoever. There are groups out there who are protecting humans and mutants alike from those mutants who want to rule this entire planet. There are some mutants love to stay hidden and out of sight of normal humans. That is because they look a lot more different than we all do right now. I myself am a mutant."
"A mutant? You look normal?" spoke Senator Kelly. He was shocked by the news.
"Yes, all mutants look normal to the untrained eyes. I hid my mutant looks for I am not normal looking once this wig is removed." said Kia, as she removed her wig to reveal light brown feathers on her head and then removed her contact lenses from her eyes which hid what her eyes really look like. "My hair is feathers. My eyes are eagle looking." The Senators were shocked to see a mutant in front of them as was Senator Kelly. "But there is even more to this."
Kia looked down at her belt that she wore and removed it from her and started to unbutton her dress and pulled the shoulders of her dress off.
"Please miss Merlin!! This is not wise of you to strip in front of us!" cried Sen. Kelly, as he hid his eyes.
"I have other clothings underneath this dress, Senator. Look!" spoke Kia, as she removed her dress to reveal pale brown wings the size of her body and a pale blue shirt and shorts. "I am what you would call a winged mutant. I can see a pimple forming on your left cheek near your eye. I am practically harmless as I only eat my prey that I hunt in the woods which are other birds, bugs, and the occasional deer and I hunt far away from the prying eyes of those who would get scared of me. Thus your MRA would destroy my peaceful life that I have as I am a loner and do not try to get too close to humans or mutants themselves. Good day." She tucked her wings back into her dress and hid her hair before she walked out of the room without another stating a word.
The whole room broke into a loud noise as the other Senators now argued even more about the Act. Outside of the building, Kia saw Jean and Scott standing by their car.
"Looks like you need a place to stay for a while, Kia?" asked Jean.
"I guess I do. By how it is sounding in the room, when I left, they might not let the MRA pass by what I said and shown to them. Plus I think Senator Kelly will probably vanish from being a Senator after this is through." said Kia, as she sat down in the backseat of their car as they drove away from the Senate.
"I have this feeling too. Scott, call the school and make sure that there is a room set up for Kia, top floor preferably the other side of the attic. Ororo is using part of the attic as her room." said Jean, as she smiled towards Kia and Scott.
"I'll like that. It will be easier for me to fly out of the room than rushing downstairs and trying to get aloft with the ground air and not from the air already around the top floor." smiled Kia, as she looked out the car window.
Jean and Scott both smiled as they looked towards the road. They got to the mansion to see Professor X sitting in his wheel chair as Ororo stood by him by the door to the school. They welcomed Kia into the group and their home.
This story is now done.
